About Black Children's Book Week

The inaugural Black Children’s Book Week took place from February 27th - March 5th, 2022. The week is a global celebration of Black children and the people who ensure Black children are represented in books and other children’s media.

Black Children's Book Week was founded by Veronica N. Chapman, a children's book author and entrepreneur. Veronica has a track record of designing creative services and products that affirm and inspire Black children. She is the founder of Boxxout Enterprises, where she designs creative solutions for social change like Black Baby Books, a platform that makes it easier to discover children's books with Black characters.

Black Children's Book Week is administered by Black Baby Books, and it will start every year on the last Sunday in February henceforth.

Our goal for
Black Children's Book Week

Our goal for the week is to collectively raise the vibration in the world for Black children by showering them with an extra dose of love via the power of representation.

Research shows that when Black children see themselves represented positively in their media, it fortifies their self-esteem and helps protect them from the impact of racism. - This is why your support of this week is so necessary!

This week will be an awesome opportunity for anyone who wants to get behind a fun and positive new celebration, and be proactive in helping Black children establish a foundation on which they can thrive!

Black Children's Book Week virtual museum of black representation

I wanted to find a fun and creative way to celebrate our sponsors and donors, and present a stunning display of Black representation that can be enjoyed for people beyond Black Children's Book Week.

To fulfill this vision I created a dynamic Shoppable Virtual Museum of Black Representation to highlight the work of our sponsors, with a wall dedicated to our donors!
